The problem with video-only lessons
Video courses and apps can show your child what to play. But once the video ends, no one sees what your child actually played โ so you can't tell what went well or what needs work. Parents end up either hovering anxiously or hoping for the best.
How lessons "with feedback" work
It's a simple loop: Watch โ Play โ Get a practice report. Your child learns from a real teacher's lesson, plays along, and then you get a short, parent-friendly summary:
What went well
โ Steady beat ยท โ Good hand shape ยท โ Played to the end
What to practice next
โข The middle section, hands taking turns โ slowly first
โข A small pause before the last note
Practice tip (based on Gima's teaching method): clap and count the middle section first.
No music degree required โ it tells you the one or two things to help with this week. (More on how to tell if your child is improving.)
Instant scoring on every song
The feedback comes from Gima's Piano's own performance quiz software. Connect a digital keyboard by USB (MIDI) for the most accurate scoring, or use the microphone with an acoustic piano. As your child plays, the software checks:
- Right notes โ including wrong keys and notes played in the wrong octave
- Rhythm and timing โ early, late, and long notes let go too soon
- Musical tips on a keyboard โ gentle reminders when a soft part is played loud, or about pedal and staccato/legato as those are taught
The moment the song ends, the bars that need work are shaded right on the sheet music, with a score and a short practice tip. Your child can replay just those bars, slow the tempo down, or โ on duet songs โ play along with the teacher part.
A coach on top (Premium)
Software can hear notes and timing. It can't see a collapsed wrist or hear whether a phrase sings. Premium Access adds a Zoom lesson every week with a real teacher from Gima's studio, who watches your child play and gives feedback on phrasing, dynamics in detail, hand shape and posture. The instant scoring stays on every song as well โ the teacher fills in what it can't hear.
What you get
- A structured path โ real lessons in the right order, from first notes toward ABRSM Grade 8, alongside the official Faber Piano Adventures books.
- Instant scoring + a practice report after every piece โ via MIDI keyboard or microphone: what went well, what to practice next, a clip to review.
- Progress tracking + quizzes โ see lessons completed and scores, watch levels build.
- Parent support โ printables and a For-Grown-Ups view so you can help without playing yourself.
Taught by a real teacher
